Ingredients :
- Toor daal : 1/2 cup
- Onion : 1
- Tomato: 1
- Cucumber : 2
- Garlic Cloves : 2
- Green Chillies : 3
- Turmeric Powder : 1/2 tsp
- Curry Leaves : 6
- Tamarind pulp: 2 Tblsp
- Salt: per taste
- Sugar : 1/2 tsp
- Sambar Powder: 2 Tblsps
- Red Chilli powder: 1 tsp
- Cilantro : 2 tsps
- Water : 1 n half cup
- Oil : 3 tsps
- Tadka : Mustard seeds (1/2 tsp), Hing(Asafoetida) : a pinch, turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp, Curry Leaves : 5-6
Instructions:
- Chop cucumber, add it to Toor daal.
- Add chopped green chillies to toor daal.
- Add a pinch of turmeric and water and Pressure cook the toor daal.
- In a wok/kadhai, heat oil and add tadka.
- Once the tadka crackles, add lengthwise chopped onions , mashed garlic and fry.
- Then add chopped tomatoes and fry again for a couple of mins.
- Now add the cooked toor daal with cucumber pieces (mash the daal slightly before adding to the wok, without making the cucumber pieces into pulp)
- Add 1/4 cup water , Sambar Masala, Red chilli powder, salt, sugar and tamarind pulp.
- Mix and let it come to a boil.
- Check taste and add salt, red chilli powder or tamarind pulp per taste.
- Add chopped cilantro for garnishing.
- Serve hot with Rice n pickle !!
